Matt's '70 Ghia

This 1970 Karmann Ghia was purchased brand new late in 1969 by my grandmother in Stanwood, WA. About fifteen years later my grandfather offered to sell it to my Mom and I for $3000. I put up about $1000 to help my Mom buy it, and got to drive it (as a sixteen year old) for about nine months or so before my Mom paid me back. Mom drove it occasionally for the next 23 years, before she offered to sell it to me for the same $3000 in the summer of 2008. The only stipulation of the sale was that if I ever wanted to sell it, I would have to offer it to my sister for the same $3000.

It has about 185,000 miles on the original engine and still runs well. I stash it away in my Dad's garage for most of the winter months, and drive it a few days a week the rest of the year. I would like to do more restoration on the interior, but am scared to open that can of beans. I enjoy exchanging waves with other air-cooled VW's on the road, and sharing the family history of the car.
